Welcome to Little Hero Project!
Thank you for visiting! Here at Little Hero Project, we aspire to living a healthy and kind life, celebrate strong girls and women, and having so… so much fun along the way!
There are many ways to be a hero, and it’s up to each of us to find the way that speaks to our souls. For us, it’s martial arts. On this site, we share our martial arts journey and small nuggets of knowledge that we’ve gained along the way.

Who We Are:
Hi, I’m Melissa Crane! Otherwise known as Mommy, coach, cheerleader, and head energy channeler.
By day, I am a digital marketer. By night, I am a yogi and martial artist.
Ten years ago, inspired by Kung Fu Panda (I kid you not, skadoosh!), I studied Shaolin Kung Fu and worked my way to brown belt. After years of kickboxing training, I am now training in karate and jiu jitsu along with my two girls.
The amazing thing with martial arts, and really anything in life, is that even if you have years of experience, there’s always so much more to learn. It’s also such a great skill for kids, and especially young girls to learn. To build their self confidence both in and outside the dojo.
Lyla Crane, we call her Marvel sometimes. Her nickname comes from having immense amount of focus at her young age. She started training in karate & jiu jitsu when she was 5 years old.
In her first year of training, she started competing in national and international karate tournaments.
2020:
Middle Tennessee Classic: 9 & Under Beginners Grand Champion, Traditional Weapons 1st place, Traditional Forms 1st place, Point Sparring 1st place
North Georgia Open: 9 & Under Beginners Grand Champion, Traditional Weapons 1st place, Traditional Forms 1st place, Point Sparring 1st place
2019:
Battle of Atlanta: 13 & Under Beginners Traditional Forms Grand Champion
US Open World Championships: Traditional Weapons 4th place
Dixieland Nationals: Traditional Weapons 1st place, Traditional Forms 1st place
With so much success in such a short time of training, we have seen firsthand that with the proper type of training, focus, and passion, you can achieve great things.
Amelia Crane, aka Rogue. Her nickname comes from her tendency to do exactly (and only) what she wants to do.
I love watching Rogue practice yoga with me because it’s amazing what little kids are capable of, how the human body is made to move, and we are reminded of how much we lose that capability as we get older because we start to believe that we aren’t capable of these things.
